The laser attack in the final phase will almost certainly kill you if it hits, so you’ll have to get your timing right when you try and lure the Valkyrie into it. Use Bahamut, though I don’t recall getting an opportunity to use a summon during this fight. Come out of hiding to shoot them (or better yet, try and get an angle on them from behind cover) but always retreat back to cover as soon as the Arsenal starts gearing up for another attack. Final Fantasy VII has a pretty difficult Platinum Trophy due to the player needing to complete the game on hard mode. Make sure you have Revival Materia equipped, too. When you run out of legs to attack, attack the big guns at either side of its body and you’ll eventually get another stagger out of it, which will be enough to finish it off. Assess Info: Ice spells rapidly fills its stagger gauge, while melee attacks have only a slight effect on it, and long-range and other elements attacks have no effect. The former only grants you items, whereas the AI Cores slows the boss down and limits his stun attacks and removing the bombs reduces the number of times he can use powerful explosives. In the final phase, you’ll face off against Whisper Bahamut. ability of the TWIN BLADE Plus, it’s nice to have the MP-preservation pressure off your back for this one. This battle really is a war of attrition, as you’ll have to keep your health up while also being aware of what phase the House is in and act accordingly. Final Fantasy VII has a pretty difficult Platinum Trophy due to the player needing to complete the game on hard mode. Chocobo and Moogle’s neutral element won’t have this problem. This move does a ton of damage and he’ll spray balls of energy everywhere, the only way to not get hit by this is to hide behind containers. Finished up the plat trophy with the clutch hard mode tips. Use the same strategy as the first phase, and be careful not to get hit by his attacks. There’s no point in elemental damage here. Square Enix. Including moves, weakness, resistances, how to defeat on hard mode, and more! Counterattack it to death, chipping in with Maximum Fury and Starshower from Barret and Tifa, remembering to always go for the Claw first if it’s out, then the main body. If you fight him in Chapter 17 Shinra Combat Simulator (Pride and Joy Challenge), use a team of Cloud, Aerith, Barret. Eventually, you can hit his wheels to damage and break them. In the second phase, the Brain Pod will split up into several weaker Brain Pods. Employ Elemental Materia linked with Fire Materia on weapons and keep an eye on healing and this will be a breeze. For this boss fight, I just used Barret the whole time. It does, but you will need a max level warding materia to 100% guarantee survival. Never attack him outside of his Reload animation since he’ll just counter it right away and damage you. Is that supposed to happen? Other than that, tactics are pretty similar. During this phase, its main attack alongside its normal bullet attacks will be Voltaic Discharge, which are electric circles on the floor. You can’t kill it in a single stagger. Stay there, have her cast Haste on you and just keep hitting it with Maximum Fury. So try and do it when he’s close to staggering to have a much easier time. Unleash a leaping attack to knock it down to the ground. Whoever is your Thief should be using the Steal command whenever they have a charged ATB until you’re successful. The boosted AP gains from having beat the game definitely helps with this. Stay away! The pressure is on a bit here, because if you run out of cover then you’re pretty much screwed. Therefore, if you want to get a headstart in this battle, it’s best to equip Elemental-Ice on Aerith’s weapon. Alternatively, you can equip Elemental and any of the four elements to your armor and protect yourself from at least 1 of the 4 different elements. For Jenova Dreamweaver, you need to attack the tentacles alphabetically to make it vulnerable to attacks again otherwise the tentacles will just keep popping up. Especially if it grabs one of your characters. For the first section of this fight, use Aerith exclusively. Don’t attack the Ghoul holding him! Note: From this point on, the battles are much easier if you complete the “vs Top Secrets” mission in the Shinra Combat Simulator. For anyone coming across this later, I think the members of the final battle are connected to the person you speak to outside Aerith’s house at night at the beginning of Chapter 14. As long as you dodge this attack or quickly get a Phoenix Down and heal on a dead ally, you can continue using the tried and tested methods from earlier in the fight. For whoever is left, refer to the fallback options in their loadouts above. FFVII Remake Hard Mode General Tips Before you begin… Before even attempting Hard Mode I recommend you use the combat simulator at the start of Chapter 17 (it’s added once you finish the game, just beat the first group of enemies and you’ll see Chadley in the next room) to grind all your characters to level 50. After the scene in the Reactor 5 Core, you’ll have to work your way through a number of security rooms before the fight. Take all of the above, ramp its damage output up considerably, extend its HP pool exponentially and then just for the icing on the cake, throw in a sprinkle of Tonberries on top. Cloud is basically useless here as his attacks up close will do nothing and he can’t target aerially. Attack with Aerith’s regular attack (which works from range) and use Cloud as the healer. With Fire elemental damage on Cloud and Tifa, you can hit it real hard. On the first stagger you won’t be able to kill it. As Cloud is alone for this fight, there’s no need for Magnify, so feel free to replace it with an extra HP Up, MP Up or the Barrier Materia. Similar to Malboro, the best bet is to get behind its legs and just keep attacking it to build the Stagger bar. If you’re not at least 80% certain your attack is going to land properly, it’s probably a better idea not to attempt it. The other characters can then chip in with their strongest abilities (Aerith can heal if you need). For Aerith you’ll mainly want to use her Ability “Ray of Judgment” from her Mythril Rod weapon when the house doesn’t have its white shield up. Just run circles around the arena with Cloud, letting Aerith do some small damage to the Hell House while the bots follow you, hopefully getting hit by the various charging and electric attacks the House throws at you until they die. Once you’ve taken Reno’s health down enough, Rude will swoop in with his helicopter, just shoot it enough with Barret until he joins. But once his wheels were gone he was so easy to beat that I was able to take off the remaining 60-70% of his health without even breaking a sweat. Barrier and Time materia are also good options, as a Manawall will cut damage received in half, and Haste will increase ATB charge speed allowing for more powerful attacks such as Ray of Judgement and Triple Slash. The Hell House shifts type throughout the battle, so if you have Ice – for example – equipped and he shifts to Ice-type then you’ll end up healing him! Focus on hitting his Appendages with Barret, who is the best character to control during this fight. Barret will die. Your email address will not be published. Make sure you’re healing whenever you can. You have to hit his front or preferably the back, where his frontal AoE attack can’t hit you. Intermittently, it will fly high up into the stands of the Colosseum and unleash Chair Salvo, which rains chairs down on you that can really hurt if you’re not Guarding. Airbuster is a unique boss in FF7 Remake in that you can in some ways determine how difficult the battle will be. Arsenal is one of the hardest and most frustrating bosses in the game. The Enigmatic Spectre has 2 dangerous attacks – a black hole it creates on the floor which you can’t outrun if you get near it, and from the air it will rain down projectiles that can deal a lot of damage. The damn thing can even spawn Tonberries! You won’t need any MP ever again after this. Counterstance is your best bet. If you happen to have two MAX Barrier Materia, assign one to Tifa or Aerith too (whoever joins you), thus you can draw from two character’s MP pools. Rufus is a little trickier and the terribly unhelpful Assess blurb doesn’t give us much of a clue. The first phase versus Sephiroth is fairly straightforward but can be tricky until you learn the pattern. Once the attack is over, then you can pop out and continue the assault with the same tactics as earlier. Having regular Limit Breaks every couple of minutes is INCREDIBLY useful. Meaning that type of attack doesn’t do well against it. Also use arcane wind with Aerith to double cast spells. Again. Jenova can be one of the most annoying bosses since she counters almost every melee attack with a tentacle whip. When this happens, switch to Aerith to bait it into attacking her, and when it starts to move, quickly hit. Weapon (Reinforced Staff): Magic Up x2, MP Up x2, HP Up x2, Pull out the ol’ Tifa one-two and mash on that sandy MFer to dramatically increase the stagger bonus. After Staggering it for a second time it will move ahead and start shooting volleys of electrical orbs towards you, which you need to avoid until it moves back near you. Quickly press [x] whenever you see Roche begin an attack animation, this will buy you time to select Counterstance and defend from most of the damage as well as dealing huge amounts of damage to Roche. Always be in Punisher Mode when you can, holding to Guard and hit him with your counterattack. Shiva, but play it smart with her, don’t summon her until Eligor is in the air, as she’s a huge help for getting him down. Malboro is surprisingly easy. As soon as you start, hit Darkstar with Ascension and it’ll lose half its health and be in Stagger or close to it. HARD MODE RENO: Have Rise and Fall attack and 2 ATB bars ready before it goes into stagger. The more health he loses, the more aggressive he gets, but you can still block all of his attacks. For Final Fantasy VII Remake on the PlayStation 4, a GameFAQs message board topic titled "The Ghoul boss on Hard (spoiler)". Have Elemental-Lightning on armor to negate many of his attacks and use the old Punisher-counterattack combo, using your ATB for Focus attacks and Triple Slash/Unbridled Strength until he’s Staggered. I struggled most with Sephiroth on hard out of any boss. Thank you. What I would do is unleash a Limit Break on it while it’s charging its Pulse Cannon, if I’m going to go down anyway I might as well go down fighting! Make sure Tifa has been buffed twice with Unbridled Strength before it goes into Stagger, and have 2 ATB bars ready. Summon Shiva when you can, too. If you have enough MP then you can pretty much use this method to keep a steady stream of limit breaks coming. So, I hid behind the container, popping around one side every now and then to deal some damage to the legs or let loose an Overcharge attack. Eventually, that will bring Hell House back down to the floor and then is your real chance to cause some damage. Deal as much damage as you can and part of his body will break off and that Whisper will vanish from the battlefield. This boss has no weaknesses, so there’s no need for the Elemental Materia or any accompanying elements. Ignore the grey Specters and just lock onto the Enigmatic Specter, which is obvious due to its purple hue. You’ll also want Elemental-Ice on Cloud and make sure a couple of your team have both high level Ice and Wind Materia. You’re going to want Bahamut, as it has no type bias and won’t end up healing the house. That just makes the fight harder to win. Any tips for Eligor on Hard? To begin with, you’ll have to fight a bunch of Unknown Entities but they go down with regular attacks punctuated by Starshower and Maximum Fury. It is weak to Barret’s Thunder spell, so use it whenever he has a full ATB bar to keep the pressure up, and once it is staggered, unload with Cloud’s Braver and Barrett’s Focused Shot abilities. Which is annoying, but a blessing in disguise with Counterstance. Then use Blade Burst once you’ve built up your ATB. You want Fire + Elemental damage on Cloud and Barret. Maybe it’s tied to story choices, but only 2 characters will join you and you don’t know who it will be until you reach that far in the fight. Make or break moment. This boss is right at the end of the chapter, so no need to try and conserve MP, just make sure you prioritize using it for healing and use it for spells if you’re feeling confident. There’s nothing to save your MP for here, but it’s pretty useless except for healing anyway. Final Fantasy VII had one of the most iconic deaths in video game history. It’s probably best during this phase to take out tentacles for the team with a few fully charged tempest attacks, but other than that just be careful not to get hit by Vengeance or caught by a black hole. Aerith would be a bit more beneficial there as she has more MP to refresh Manawall and healing but it’s not too difficult with Tifa either. You MUST have Haste for the final section or else it will be hard to deal enough damage to Arsenal before he fires his second laser. If you’ve already built up a Limit Break with one or two characters, now is the time to use it! This lets you change equipment before the Arsenal boss (especially helpful on hard difficulty to switch Gotterdammerung accessory from Cloud to Barret). However, with little patience and poor timing, he can struggle where MrZhangetsu would succeed. You’ll know you’re in the final phase when the boss destroys all your cover. The first part of the fight with Cloud is all about countering. This fight is just like the other two against Reno and Rude alone, except this time they’re together. Oh well, here we go…. This one is pretty technically simple, but the bosses can head really hard. Play against him as normal for a while, block his gunshot attacks, dodge the “Bright Lights” attacks and Counterstance him when you can (keep one ATB in the chamber though). You can be somewhat liberal with your MP usage here, as you’ll get full MP regen at the start of the battle, and Tifa will join you with full MP for the next boss in this chapter. If you don’t destroy it after the third Stagger, it will go forward again and launch more volleys at you. This is it. Lastly, you’re going to want all weapon skills learned too, not just for the trophy, but because they help a lot. Your strategy should be exactly the same, stay behind a pillar and avoid all of the incoming attacks, while now concentrating fire on the body of the Arsenal whenever it’s safe to do so. In fact, if you want to get Staggering Feat out of the way, this is your best bet. Give lightning materia to all three characters. You should add an elemental resistance to cloud’s armour. He’ll also start counting down to his Limit Break, Tidal Wave. As mentioned previously, Eligor is really frustrating. The cover will get destroyed. I was level 42 when I unlocked Hard Mode and even just the first boss destroyed my team, reaching level 50 makes a huge difference.
