Dee Why is situated to the north of Curl Curl and South of Long Reef. Alternatively, walking onwards to Narrabeen (which is what I did) will end at another huge beach but was less scenic than the initial Curl Curl to Dee Why section. I didn’t finish any of my Sydney coastal walks by relaxing on the beach… I just got the bus straight back home haha. Manly Dam. The Curl Curl to Freshwater beach coastal walk is stunning. Unfortunately, a nightmare to get to on public transport but only a short drive from Sydney by car, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park is home to many bushwalks. It’s one of my favourite places in Sydney as the elevated timber boardwalk hugs the rocks with breathtaking views of the ocean keeping you within arms length of the water. Sydney Coastal Walks With Kids – Dee Why To Curl, Curl Here’s a walk that’s gorgeous on a sunny Sydney day and fine for kids, so long as they are old enough to walk carefully. Long Reef. If you parked at Dee Why Beach, you can easily walk along the roadway back up the hill to your car which is only around 20 minutes and easier than going back through the bush trail. Take the same bus back to Sydney. A quiet, north facing frontage captures ocean views, while the rear invites southerly breezes and effortless indoor to outdoor living. Alternatively, it is 10km walk all the way to Watsons Bay lighthouse which I would recommend. There is a direct bus from Dee Why to Sydney! Dee Why, Curl Curl and Harbord Before the first road bridges to the Warringah Peninsula opened in 1924, the locals had to catch public transport to Manly, and then change to the ferry. If you’re a tourist with little time in the city, you can walk from historical The Rocks region, past the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, through the Botanic Gardens and finish up at this gorgeous view at Mrs Macquaries Chair. On the way back, you can walk fifteen minutes to a direct bus back to Sydney (the 230 or M30 – or simply catch the 238 bus from Balmoral Beach to Taronga Zoo Wharf and catch the ferry again. Finish off the walk with a swim in the Curl Curl ocean pool before either walking back along the track the way that you came, or take the streets for a faster walk. North Head Loop is a 10km loop that takes around 3 hours. During summer, you will also find that when other beaches in the area are closed due to either rough seas or blue bottles, Curl Curl tends to stay open as it does not experience the same conditions. The photos below were taken overlooking Clontarf Beach and, when you’re tired after the walk, you can enjoy the ferry from Manly to Circular Quay! It’s a nudist beach. Today, when you arrive at Manly Wharf, although the trams have long gone, you pass the stands for the bus routes that still feed the ferries from nearby suburbs. Distance: 1.6km one way. Curl Curl Beach to Freshwater is a lovely scenic coastal walk that is easy for anyone to do. A nice walk to combine with a beach day whilst checking out some of Manly’s many cute cafes. Located just south of Dee Why on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, it is a great place to surf, swim, walk and bring your dogs. The rugged sandstone headland boasts spectacular views south to Manly and north to Long Reef and beyond. Dee Why Headland is a sensitive coastal ecosystem, providing an important wildlife corridor between Curl Curl and Dee Why Lagoons. There are a number of loop walks, including Long Reef and Dee Why Lagoon, Curl Curl and Manly Lagoons and the bushland circular track through Manly Dam Reserve. For lunch or dinner, head over to Dee Why Beach, which is only a short walk from North Curl Curl and offers some amazing cafes, restaurants and take away shops as well as two playgrounds and picnic areas. Manly Lagoon to North Head Coming back from Watsons Bay is a good excuse to catch a ferry! Two of the most famous are Bundeena to Otford Coastal Park and Eagle Head Rock to Curracurrong Falls. On the Eagle Head Rock walk, your first sight of interest will be Providential Point lookout, just a few hundred metres in, but the whole walk looks incredible. Queenscliff to North Manly.
